APS COVID-19 resources

A message from our CEO, Antonia Ruffell
With so many not-for-profit organisations doing it tough, I have made this short video in response to many of our clients’ questions asking how they can make sure their giving can have the most impact at this time. I encourage funders to talk to the organisations they care about, to ask them what they need most from donors right now. For our part, we will continue to move swiftly and efficiently to help distribute funds to charities.

A message from our CEO, Antonia Ruffell

Our article, Pandemic Philanthropy: Giving in a Time of Crisis, provides some additional pointers for funders to consider for their philanthropy during this time.

Watch: Philanthropy Stories
While the pandemic has curtailed our physical movements, we’re experimenting with new ways of staying in touch. Introducing Philanthropy Stories, a semi-regular virtual catch-up with prominent and not-so-well-known members of the wider APS community.

In this episode philanthropist and entrepreneur Allan English chats with Fiona Higgins about how the pandemic has affected his philanthropic practice.

APS adviser Pennie Loane chats with Este Darin-Cooper, philanthropist, arts funding advocate and all-round dynamo in this episode. Este shared the ways the crisis has impacted the arts community and gave a shout out to all the fundraisers doing an incredible job in tough times.

Our response to charities
APS seeks to empower our clients to be directly involved with the causes and organisations they support. While some of our clients wish to maintain privacy in their philanthropy, most derive great satisfaction through forming meaningful and lasting relationships with charities.

This resource outlines what APS is doing to assist our clients to continue supporting the outstanding and fundamental work undertaken by charities.

Our sector response
APS is proud to join a growing list of organisations to sign a joint statement providing a guiding set of principles for grantmakers and supporters of the not-for-profit sector; Australian Philanthropy’s Response to the COVID-19 Crisis.

Our CEO Antonia Ruffell also joined a panel of philanthropy leaders to discuss the sector’s response to the pandemic at the (virtual) Generosity Forum conference in May 2020.
